WESTconsin on Morning Connection - Celebrating Agricultural Roots During June Dairy Month

WESTconsin Credit Union’s roots are strong in agriculture. Originally starting in 1939 as Menomonie Farmers Credit Union, our primary focus was serving the agricultural needs of the community, and we continue to do so now 84 years later. On June's WEAU 13 News Morning Connection, Senior Business Loan Officer, Joe Rumpel, discusses how we are celebrating our roots during June Dairy Month.
How has WESTconsin served farmers over the years?
WESTconsin Credit Union is here today because of our local farmers. It all started with seven Menomonie farmers pooling together the little money they had to start the credit union, running it out of their home and keeping the money in a cigar box. One of the first loans we ever gave was for $50 so a member could purchase a goat! We eventually changed our name from Menomonie Farmers Credit Union to WESTconsin in the 1990s after much expansion and growth, but despite that, our focus for serving our farmers continues by providing them with a range of business services and agricultural loans.
What kind of agricultural loans and services does WESTconsin offer?
We provide our farmers with customized agriculture financing solutions to help manage farming operations. We put an emphasis on customized because we understand that each year can present a different set of challenges for farmers that can change overtime. We have agricultural experts, like myself and other team members, that can help farmers evaluate and identify the best financing solutions for them and their farm. Whether that be purchasing land, equipment, livestock, or just need financing for annual inputs and expenses, WESTconsin is here to help.
How is WESTconsin celebrating June Dairy Month?
June Dairy Month is a nationwide celebration to honor the dairy industry and the hard-working farmers and animals that provide us with the dairy products we love. WESTconsin will be doing a giveaway on our social media channels, but there are many community events to attend and local businesses to support to help celebrate all month long!
